That Modern Jane Austen Vibe
If you look back to when we moved in, my idea was to create a little Georgian home at Blackbird Cottage with modern Jane Austen vibes. You can see my inspo in the original post. The room has started to come together so in this post you’ll see the details I’m adding to creating this vibe in our cottage bedroom.
The Bones of the Cottage Bedroom
The decorating began before the furniture went into the room. We enhanced the cottage look by painting the ceiling, trims and chimney a soft cream from Tint paint. The floors were filled, sanded and stained with Feast Watson Liming White Stain and Varnish. I then added Morris & Co. wallpaper in a fresh green. After seeing how good the newly plastered walls looked we decided to splash out and add new colonial-style skirting boards to the room as well. Previously, the cottage had no plaster at all. The walls were built using horizontal boards which were then covered in newspaper and layers of wallpaper. To see the house with plaster for the first time in it’s history was such a treat.
.Adding the Furniture and Decor
The furniture pieces for the cottage bedroom come office were ones we already owned with the exception of the secretaire. This was purchased deliberately to fit the library vibe our daughter wanted. When she visits this will be her bedroom. If she brings a partner/friend it’s an easy swap to remove the antique sleigh bed and pop her stored double bed under the window.
The new rug came from eBay. You can find all my rugs on the shop my cottage page. The wall art is mostly vintage or made by me with the exception of the Boundless in Bloom Print we bought years ago. You can purchase this print on a number of sites now. There are a number of details to add to this room but I love the look so far. What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts below.
