Full Farmhouse Tour 2023

Over the past five years, Mr GGF and I have worked tirelessly on the renovation and rejuvenation of the farmhouse. At last, the work is done. Now, we can take a breather before we move on to the next project. But before we do, I think it’s time to celebrate Green Gate Farm in all her glory. It’s been a dream to come to live here. Seeing our old girl come to life once again. So I hope you enjoy this final farmhouse tour.

If you would like to view an earlier one you can find out how the farmhouse looked before and watch our first video on the Our Farmhouse page.

The first stop on the farmhouse tour has to be the reinvented kitchen and living room. We built an entire kitchen where we think the original dining room might have been. We know what we use as the dining room now was the kitchen in the original house. The meat hook still remains in the ceiling and there’s a double fireplace: one side for cooking and one for heating.

The second bedroom was the room that had the smallest transformation. I took down the wallpaper and Gavin removed ugly built-in wardrobes. We also painted the mantel and revarnished the floor. We added a decorative cornice throughout the entire house. And wasn’t that an afternoon of steep YouTube learning curves?! Turns out you can’t just cut on an angle like we thought.

Our farmhouse tour continues in the master suite. We created this room from the kitchen and dining room. The rooms were renovated in the early 1980’s. We moved a door, removed the 70’s arch, covered over the timber veneer, and reinstated the colonial skirtings. We also had to rip out the old kitchen and create a space for a walk-in robe. Not to mention adding custom double-glazed windows for extra warmth. Creating an ensuite in this space was so much fun!

The rooms that gave us the most grief were in the attic. Because we moved a set of stairs, I decided to put my office at the top of the new entryway. We had to remove the weird landing and three doors. I don’t know why this house had so many doors. It was nuts. After adding timber shiplap paneling and plaster we’ve created a sweet dormer room and office with room for a queen bed and storage.

It took quite a few weeks to rebuild the verandah and add a front entrance and south elevation. The roof was custom made and a new front door installed.

And lastly, there was our renovation of the dairy building from a complete wreck into a cute cottage! (Complete with housing for animals and a stock yard. We also added a picker’s hut!
