Welcome To Hunter’s Plain

Today’s post is brought to you by Trudy Sheather of Hunter’s Plain homestead. I hope you enjoy learning a little about the history of Trudy’s gorgeous home. You can find Trudy on Instagram. I know she’d love a follow.

Hi! I’m Trudy Sheather, married with three sons, one daughter-in-law and one gorgeous grandie. Our family lives in Corryong, in the far Upper Murray of Victoria. The 930 acre beef and dairy farm was purchased by my husband’s parents in 1969, just before he was born. The home and property is named Hunter’s Plain and was one of the original selections of the district. The first Corryong school was actually on this property.

About Hunter’s Plain

Hunter’s Plain homestead is heritage listed of Local Significance. The bluestone portion of the house was built in 1870 and the addition, which doubled the size of the house, was added in 1922, in double red brick. We moved into the house in 2002, with two toddlers and one on the way. It’s been a wonderful house to bring up a family.

My Decorating Style

My style is a mix of farmhouse and traditional. I like to showcase pieces that have meaning to the family. I don’t mind the odd lace doilie scattered around either. I dabble in floristry on the side and this flows through to my gardening and love of pretty things.

The best advice I could give to a new home buyer would be to not rush. Live in your home and get the feel for how things work before you do major renovations. Quite often the house will tell you what it needs, especially an older home. (I couldn’t agree more, Trudy!)

Small Businesses I Love

As a result of the bushfires shutting down the town for weeks in January 2020 and the consequences of COVID 19, many of our local businesses are suffering. I’d love to give a nod to a couple of local businesses that I support and love to use where I can in my home.

A Little Thyme on FB and IG is a gorgeous homewares/gift store that has beautiful products. They also have an online store

Wolf and Wood Natural Healing and eco-friendly products are also on FB and IG @Kelliewolfson. Kellie makes amazing soaps and is an avid chook lover.
