Tiny Hut Inspiration

Over the last few weeks, a tiny cabin has appeared in the paddock in front of the farmhouse. It’s the most darling cabin that we plan to use for a glamping style experience but without the tent. It gets cold in Tassie. I’m not sure people would want to stay at our house in a tent, even if it was a cool bell tent. So, in this post, I thought I would share a few of the tiny hut decor photos I found. Hopefully, this will give you an insight into what we were thinking and how we want our farm stay experience to be for our guests.

The Picker’s Huts of Tasmania

Huon Valley where we live in apple country. It’s filled with orchards that went out of favor a few decades ago but are popular again due to the rise of boutique cider. On large fruit (and sheep) farms it was customary for gangs of pickers and shearers to arrive during the season, pick the apples and then move to the next property. They’d be fed by the lady of the house and given a warm bed in little huts like these that were just big enough for a bed, a little wood stove, and a chair.

Here is the finished product. It looks exactly the way we wanted it to. I especially love the reclaimed tin roof that adds rustic charm and makes the hut look old.

When we decided to offer a farm stay here at the farm we thought it would be cool to recreate our own pickers hut. We wanted our tiny hut to be reminiscent of this era but warmed by insulation and with a feeling of space from a high-pitched roof. The idea is for the hut to be like glorified camping. We will have bbq cooking and a separate communal space in the dairy conversion plus a bathroom building. Below are some ideas for the interior of our pickers hut. What do you think? Which hut would you like to stay in?

  1. Decisions, decisions, they are all lovely, but I think the first one looks very cosy ❤️
