Sweet Open Shelving Ideas

If there would is one regret I have with our kitchen it’s the fact that the only open shelving we have is on the dresser. If I had my way we would have it above all the cupboards. With only one actual wall in our kitchen and the rest being taken up by windows and a range hood, it’s hard to indulge my love. There are so many ways to decorate open shelves. They can be used in any kind of decor from sleek minimalist to stuffed and layered cottage style. Open shelves can be used in any room in the house. They can be functional or simply decorative. In this post, I’m showing you some gorgeous ideas to decorate and show off your open shelving. Who knows, you may be a convert if you are not already. I hope these open shelving ideas inspire you.

The Most Open Kind of Pantry

The shelving in the image below is my kind of open shelving (As you can see from the similarity to our pantry). When short on space, the owner of this kitchen has put up shelving and used it as a pantry. Everything is uniform and there’s space under for basket storage to hide things that don’t need to be on show.

Decorative Open Shelving Ideas

The open shelving below is purely decorative, which is unusual in a kitchen. But, hey, if you have enough storage already, why not decorate your kitchen shelves?! I also love the green with the dark cabinets. We had an entire living area in this colour once. It was very soothing and looks fabulous with timber.

Here’s another take on the decorative shelf idea. Very similar but the use of white tiles behind the shelves gives it a completely different look.

Use a Bookshelf

Liz Marie is the queen of cosy and ingenious ideas. This open shelving shows how you can use an old bookshelf as kitchen shelving and I love it! We have done the same in our kitchen by adding an old cabinet top on top of the bench to create shelves. Open shelving ideas like this are so simple but so effective, and can be personalised to your style.

The quintessential country house pantry

I mean, who would not want open shelving like this? When I dreamed of our pantry, this was the idea I had in mind. The tongue and groove panel could be added retrospectively. The shelves could also have molding added to create a more substantial look. But I think it’s the fact that everything is ordered and on show, like an old fashioned lolly shop, is the reason I love it.

What about you? Are any of these open shelving ideas taking your fancy?
