How to Unify Your Unfitted Kitchen

The beauty of the unfitted kitchen is in its mix match pieces. But what if you want a more seamless and cohesive look? In this post, you will discover how we intend to unify our unfitted kitchen and bring it all together.

Choose Similar Cabinetry Styles

I love the look of aged, waxed pine, so this is the look we are going for. Choosing pieces made of the same timber will prevent the mismatched look. But if you love certain pieces and don’t care that some are dark and some lighter, go for it.

Give Them a Quick Makeover

One way to unify a look in any room is to paint the pieces the same colour. I would not paint an entire set of bedroom furniture the same, however. That’s too matchy. But if you want a kitchen to look a more like it’s fitted, painting the cabinets one colour will do it., To make the dresser top in our pantry feel as if it was part of the cabinetry, I painted it the same colour as the cabinets.

You could also keep the timber raw but change the hardware on each piece to match. This will make it look as if you intentionally chose this look. Which you did.

Do Small Modifications

Another way to unify your unfitted kitchen is to modify the furniture pieces. I think the bench heights should be the same, where possible. So adding height to the bottom of low pieces or cutting taller legs down will give a more unified look. Plus, the benches will act as one and be more functional.

The next thing you can do is to overlay a bench top across all the pieces. This will give the illusion of a run of cabinets and create one long bench top. We think a lovely stone or marble look bench will work well with our kitchen pieces, and protect them too!

Lastly, think about installing skirting around the entire base of the cabinets. This will tie the pieces together and make them look like one run of cabinets. It will also hide and height modifications you might have made.
