Farmhouse Master Bedroom Update

If you’ve followed on Instagram for a while, you’ll know I tend to change the look of our master bedroom every six months or so. That means it’s about time for a change in my book! And I can’t think of a nicer change than classic blue and white. I’ve been bringing blue back into the farmhouse lately, so it seems only right that the master bedroom update included blue.

How the Bedroom Looked in the Beginning

When we moved to the farmhouse two years ago, our bedroom was a dining room. It had a 70s archway that led to the kitchen and the chimney had been removed. I was quite sad about that. The room was covered in badly painted timber veneer and the original deep skirting board had been replaced by slabs of blackwood. It was VERY UGLY!

The First Master Bedroom Update

Clearly, we had to redo this whole room. The archway was covered over and a door installed to what would become our ensuite. We also put new plaster in place of the veneered walls and added new skirtings we had milled to match the original ones in the hall. Mr GGF and I spent a weekend on our hands and knees sanding the floor and staining it. I painted the walls with Antique White USA and Vivid White trims. Then we moved in!

My original thinking for this bedroom was a dark teak green. That stayed for a few months. The colour never really suited the bedroom. It was too modern. I also added some drop cloth curtains at this stage.

The Latest Update

The artwork in the photo above remained during the farmhouse master bedroom update. The bed can’t move because it will only fit under the window, so to update the space with classic blue and white, I’ve introduced new bed linen and cushion covers which I made in an hour or so. You can learn how to make these easy cushion covers in THIS POST.

I also added touches of blue and white with the vintage art on the wall next to Mr GGFs side of the bed and with a blue and white bowl I picked up from the $2 shop. I’ve been searching for a home for the bowl for ages but it never looked right till I put it on the timber chest at the end of our bed.

Watch the full makeover here. I’m totally loving the results. Are you a fan of blue and white decor? I’d love to know in the comments
