Elevate the Cottage Look with Vintage Style Hardware

One of the most important factors in the renovation of Blackbird Cottage was authenticity. From the moment we took possession of the cottage we knew we had to update some of the original hardware. We wanted to keep the traditional feel of vintage style hardware for doors, windows and drawer pulls. So finding products that met this criteria was essential.. That’s why we were excited to discover TradCo, an Australian company who specialize in quality heritage style hardware. Working with vintage style products like these really does elevate a cottage or heritage look to the max. Below are some products we chose to enhance the historical story of our home.

Choose Dainty Knobs

For a touch of cottage whimsy, try porcelain knobs over traditional pulls. These crazed porcelain knobs have antique brass centers to tie in with the other hardware in our home.. When we added them to our bathroom, they gave plain doors a more vintage feel. If you like a simpler country cottage look, unadorned porcelain knobs are perfect. I added one to a dresser because I couldn’t match the handles. These knobs were often used in kitchens too. I chose the crazed porcelain in antique brass for our bathroom but the ones below are just right for cabinets.

Classic Window Hardware

Classic vintage style hardware on the sashes throughout a cottage are a must have. We chose traditional sash lifts in two sizes. The smaller pull was used for the little original cottage windows. The large size can be found on the new timber windows in the kitchen/dining area. This allowed us to continue the narrative throughout the home and seamlessly blend the old with the new to create a traditional cottage aesthetic. To further the look, I wanted an antique brass finish. This finish is more modest in my opinion, and not as glitzy as its polished brass cousin, therefore fitting for our cottage.

Replicate Vintage Door Hardware

We were lucky the majority of our door hardware was in great condition but for the locks that weren’t we chose to use good cast iron replicas. We put a new carpenter’s lock on our front door. Its brass details and key add a touch of vintage style hardware charm and highlight the door. The ornate rim lock decorates our new back doors, giving them a heritage feel. Changing out tired old locks for new ones that work has really added to the cottage feel. You can find a list of the hardware on the shop my cottage page. Then it’s easy as heading to your local TradCo stockist for the product. .
