DIY Rustic Easter Bunny Garland

Easter is a time of celebration and it’s usually a casual affair with the family for us. But as with Christmas, I wanted to get a little extra this year and do some Easter decorations for the house guests. We are expecting five to stay, not to mention those coming for lunch on Easter Sunday. And what better way there to begin my Easter theme than an Easter Bunny garland. Not that I will be buying it. I’ll be making this rustic garland with craft scraps I have on hand.

Supplies to Make an Easter Bunny Garland

  • 2 pieces of A4 sized grey felt (You could also use A4 pastel coloured felt or card)
  • 2 metres of jute string
  • 20 white pom poms (or cotton wool balls torn in half)
  • craft glue or hot glue
  • bunny template
  • Cricut Maker or scissors
  • black marker (if not using a Cricut)

I used this template to make my bunnies. The finished rabbits are 9cm high and the row of bunnies is 28cm long. So they will easily fit on an A4 piece of felt. You can fit two rows onto the felt long ways giving you 10 bunnies per sheet.

I spent nothing to make these. And they look really cute with other Easter decorations like the stamped eggs I made last year.

To Make The Easter Bunny Garland

  • First, download a copy of the bunny template. You can either print it out to make your own hand traced template or upload it into Cricut design space and follow the cutting directions as usual. (Ignore the two steps below)
  • If you are making the bunnies by hand, print out then trace the template onto some card so it is easier to trace around.
  • Using a black or dark sharpie, trace as many bunnies as you want and cut them out with scissors

Assembling Your Garland

This is the easy part. With this garland the bunnies are glued onto the string so they will not slide as you often can with other garland pieces.

Sometimes I start in the middle and work out, spacing evenly but in this case, I started from the end and worked my way along. I left a gap of about 15cm at the end before I glued the first bunny on and then a space of around 2cm between each bunny. You can lay them out on a table first if you want to get your spacing correct. I just eyeballed mine and took a guess.

.

Put a dab of craft glue almost at the top of each ear and press the string onto the bunny. Repeat until you have as many as you want on your garland (20 will make a garland around 2m long).

Clip the end of your garland so you have another piece around 15cm to tie off. (If you need to).

Once the glue is dry turn the garland over and glue a tail onto each bunny.

NOTE: I glued the tails on first and it was a little tricky to then turn over and glue the string on but totally doable. If you have little people helping you, you could do it this way first so they have their own stash of bunnies to put tails on.

To get a copy of the template I used to create my bunnies pop your email in the box and a link will appear. The template contains an SVG file you can upload to Cricut Design space and a PNG file to download and print out.
