Designing the Perfect Cosy Nook for Our Kitchen

In my last post, I shared ideas with you for creating a Hyggekrog (or cosy nook) in your home. I’ve really latched onto this idea in the last week after a lovely work colleague lent me her copy of The Little Book Of Hygge. The simple ideas have made me fall even more in love. If you haven’t read The Little Book of Hygge, I recommend it. Especially if you’re looking for ways to make your home more welcoming. The book is full of actionable and simple ideas. With these in mind, I began to formulate my ideas for how to recreate a country-style nook for our kitchen area. There’s a dead space between the benches and chimney breast that would be the perfect spot.

My Cosy Nook Mood Board

After reading the book and noting things I wanted to try, I went to Pinterest for inspiration. If you haven’t checked out the board I made, don’t forget to. I’m sure there are ideas you could use for a cosy nook too. It doesn’t have to be in your kitchen or even have a window.

For my nook, I’ve decided to use Autumn tones. You know how much I love gold and brass. I thought I might try mixing metal tones and using copper and rust to warm things up and of course a vintage style pattern or two. This mix should create a cosy feel throughout the entire kitchen and living room. It will warm up the neutral tones of the farmhouse for the Autumn and Winter seasons.

My cosy nook will have an armchair tucked into the corner. We have a couple of armchairs we don’t use in other rooms. My plan is to try each of them to see which one I like best. One, in particular, is a really good chair to curl up in but the upholstery is very dated. If I use this chair, I will need to investigate some form of slipcover over it. The armchair in my office (below) is another option though this chair is not as cosy.

After I decide on a chair, I’ll ramp up the cosy with elements you can see on my mood board: Scented candles, a throw rug, a simple plaid cushion in Autumn tones and maybe a stool or side table to pop my coffee on when I’m curled up there in the sun.

Possibilities For The Cosy Nook
