Country Style 2022 Decorating Trends

I love country-style decorating. That mix of layers, patterns, and colours pulls at my heartstrings. It makes me feel cosy (as long as it’s not too cluttered.) In this post, I want to share with you some of the trends I’ve seen lately that are perfect for a Country Style home. It doesn’t matter if you’re modern country minimalist or an English Country maximalist, you can adapt and use these 2022 decorating trends to enhance the look of your country style home.

Sustainable Furniture Choices

We all want to care more for the planet. Many of us have switched or ditched plastics and are reverting to natural fibres and materials. Here at the farm, we are very intentional about not using plastic. I’ve swapped to glass containers, beeswax wraps and linen teatowels rather than man-made fibres.

One of the 2022 decorating trends I’ve noticed is the switch back to buying vintage and antiques. Whether it’s furniture or homewares, having old pieces in your home not only gives your home personality but is helping to save the planet. Paint it, strip it do whatever you like. But if you reuse something old and give it a new life you’ll be right on trend.

The next of the 2022 decorating trends I absolutely LOVE is the return of wallpaper. It’s perfect for a country home, especially if cottagecore or English country is your vibe.

Back in the 80s when I was decorating our first home, I used a gorgeous cottage print in our bedroom. It was a nightmare to paste, hang and remove (not that I did). That’s why wallpaper became seen as the demon child.

But modern wallpaper is a breeze. It comes prepasted or peel and stick. It simply peels away when you get tired of it. There are so many options in colour and pattern that you can create your own individual style.

For a country look, I’d be going with florals, damask look or toile or chinoiserie.

Using Colour

While farmhouse and modern style took the colour away, traditional country decorating embraces colour. One trend that’s defintitely making a comeback in 2022 is using colour on your walls. It’s everywhere.

To give this trend a country twist, think soft pastels or muted blues and greens. Colour is popping into kitchens too with green cabinets everywhere. It brings nature into the home and creates depth and interest in what could be a bland room. Teaming green cabinetry with timber shelves or benches would be so lovely in a country style kitchen for a more rustic homey look.

One of the 2022 decorating trends that is definitely up the country road is Granny Chic. Grand Millenial style has been a thing over the past few years but with everyone embracing the old, things my grandma used are back in style. I’m not talking hideous little statues everywhere but food covers made of fabric, vintage floral gallery walls and quilts on beds. Guilt frames and fabric lampshades are perfect for a country-style home. So raid your grandma’s attic. Everything is old is new again.

So tell me. Are you going to give any of these trends a try?
