Country Style Bedroom 2022

Over the past four and a half years our master bedroom has undergone a series of changes. Firstly, we renovated it by hiding the dated timber veneer under plaster sheeting and reinstating the colonial skirting boards the same as the rest of the house. Then we added our ensuite and walk-in robe. During this time, I’ve experimented with a few different styles of decorating: calm and neutral, blue hues, and even pink vintage-style florals. I’ve moved furniture in and out and played with lamp styles. But this new iteration of our master bedroom has to be the one I like the most. This country-style bedroom has been created with a mix of colors and patterns. And with a budget of way less than I was expecting to pay if I had purchased new linen sheets from one of the popular online stores. Here’s how I created our version of collected country style.

Adding New Accessories

The easiest part of making over our country-style bedroom was to purchase a few accessories for the room. My favorite piece would have to be the pineapple lamp I bought from Amart Furniture. The metal accents on the lamp were brushed chrome but with a quick coat of Rub ‘n’ Buff I added hinta of gold. I have to say I was amazed at how this simple change elevated the look of the room and took it from bland to a little quirky and individual. You can see our old lamps, sadly out of date even with a makeover, in the posts below.

Vintage Bedroom 2020

Our Bedroom in the beginning

A stack of books and a pitcher filled with blackwood and teatree from the garden made my side of the bed a lovely scent and turned it into a very cosy space.

The second thing I added to my side of the room was a botanical print. This print is actually wrapping paper that I bought at Flywheel in New Norfolk. I purchased the timber frame on sale for $15. And yes, I had a matching one for Gavin’s side of the bed but me, being me, I nailed it up with a pathetic little tack. It fell to the floor and broke. So, until I can get another frame, I’ve put an oversize print on his side.

New Bed Linen

No country style bedroom is complete at the moment without touches of gingham. (And how happy am I about that on a scale of 1-10? Around 50!)

I’ve had dreadful trouble finding pillowcases to coordinate with the Kantha quilt I purchased from Etsy, so I decided to make my own. The result are gorgeous mustard-gold covers with white linen covers behind. This has brought out the colours of the quilt and added to the eclectic feel I was trying to create. I was thinking while having coffee in bed this morning, that some deep green gingham might look good too.

I also made a couple of checked covers in a richer brown for the accent pillows. What do you think?

Creating an eclectic, collected feel takes time and often trial and error. I didn’t spend a lot to create this look. The furniture, rug, quilt covers, and light fittings are the same as they’ve been for the past two years. I’ve simply added some individual touches to make the room our own. And I love this look.
