A Quick Vintage Bedroom Update for Spring

After the winter I’ve had here on the farm, getting into the warmer weather and throwing the windows open is something I’ve longed for. I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a better way to welcome the new season than by giving our vintage bedroom a new look. Crisp linen sheets and floral pillow covers are perfect to create a vintage country look. Moving art from one spot to another adds to the floral theme.

My Vintage Bedroom Decorating Inspiration

A week or so back, I shared a mood board with ideas for a country bedroom this Spring. I loved the mix of pastels against the white. The way floral had been introduced as a pop of colour spoke to me. Big blousy florals are having a moment in home accessories. I haven’t seen pattern used like this since the 90’s when cabbage roses on walls were a thing. I’m so happy they’re back. Even though I like a neutral backdrop, having pattern in my accessories makes a room complete for me.

Bringing Vintage in with Linen

The first port of call on my vintage bedroom decor list was, of course, Spotlight. It can be hit and miss there but lately, they’ve had a lot of lovely linen in the dress fabrics section. I used it to make the ruffled curtains in my office makeover, and also the new pillow covers I made for the lounge way back in March. I chose a large pattern floral fabric as well as a smaller green to match. Then I made the ruffled pillows.

I also purchased two new sets of bedlinen at 40% off (plus my VIP discount). The linens are 100% vintage washed cotton in blush and silver. The silver colour has a slight blue tinge to it that matches the other blue in the room. I paired the linen with the new pillowcases I made and a couple of sage green European covers I had from a few years back. The whole look is soft and very vintage.

Time for the Vintage Bedroom Decor Pieces

Because I have a neutral palette in the bedroom, changing the accessories around is fairly simple. I shop my home for things I have that are in other rooms or packed away. To complete this romantic country look in our bedroom, I added an oil painting I got from my mother. It belonged to my grandmother and I’ve never had a home for it until now. I think it looks perfect in our room.

I also added the green wooden birds to the top of Gavin’s chest of drawers and took away his lamp. I don’t think I’ve seen him use it once in the ten years it’s been on his side of the bed. I put a vase of artificial peonies at the foot of the bed to replace the blue bowl that was there. A stack of blue books (one entitled Sunshine which I thought was very apt) and my wooden birds complete the look.

Since completing this look a new vintage style rug has also arrived in blue and silver. I can’t wait to see how that looks to replace the jute one that’s been there for two years. It will be warmer and softer underfoot, that’s for sure.
