4 Home Improvements For Under $100

Many of us have been homebound these past few months and if you’re anything like me, you’ve most likely been looking at your house with a fresh set of eyes. You might be seeing things you overlooked in the race to get to work each day. There may be jobs that need finishing (Erm. Hello me!) or things might simply be a little tired and need a freshen up. Which is where this list comes in. Below are 4 home improvements under $100 you can complete in a weekend. Use them to breathe new life into your home or even to inspire other quick projects.

1. Paint the Front Door

This home improvement is top of the list because it’s easy, can be achieved in a couple of hours and costs around $50 depending on the brand of paint you choose.

Your front door is the welcome to your home and at this time of year when things are dreary, why not cheer it up with a glossy bold colour? Choose a colour to match your interior scheme as we did. Or go completely nuts and pick a colour you love but would NEVER use inside your home like blush pink, turquoise or sunny yellow!

The best part about painting your door is that when you get tired of it you can give it a sand down and paint it a new colour.

2. Tidy Up Your Entry

While you’re outdoors, why not give the entry to your home a tidy as well.

Firstly, put away the junk that has accumulated and doesn’t belong. Hang coats, put shoes away. Get out the hose, deck cleaner or pressure washer and give everything a good clean. You have no idea how this will improve the look of your home.

Add a shelf to your entry as we did. This shelf cost me $7 at auction. You can read about how I made over the little shelf in the picture above HERE

3. DIY a Doormat

Next, invest in a new doormat or DIY one. This is one of the home improvements for under $100 that will add instant appeal to your home and make things look fresh. There are so many ideas out there and it’s easy to make a stencil and personalise a mat. If you’re not crafty there a tonne of sites such as Temple & Webster that offer ‘personalised’ options. A new doormat will cost around $40.

Pick up a couple of new plants while you’re at it and make a mass grouping in the entryway. My entry favourites are daisies and lavender. They look lovely in an urn or galvanised bucket and don’t require a lot of watering. You could buy around 8 pot plants for under $100!

4. Stencil a Wall

This is one home improvement for under $100 I’ve been wanting to try for ages! Stencils have come into their own again in recent years and with the improvement in paints and tools, it’s easier than ever. To buy a good wall stencil and a pot of paint you will spend less than $100. The place you could stencil are endless and it’s a good alternative to wallpaper because when you get bored you can paint over it. My go to stencil site is Cutting Edge Stencils. The range is enormous. The biggest problem will be choosing which one you want to use in your home.

Of course, there are many other quick and inexpensive ways to improve your home. If you’d like to add to the list why not DM me on Instagram or Facebook. I’d love to hear from you.
