4 Beautiful Place Settings for the Christmas Table

Laying a beautiful table for Christmas does not have to mean expensive china and flatware. Simple and minimalist can be just as impressive. In this post, I’m sharing four simple neutral Christmas place settings using china and cutlery from local stores and some vintage china. It’s not what you have its how you lay the table that makes all the difference. The variations on a theme are casual and pretty. Perfect for the holiday season. They can be reproduced using what you have at home or in your Christmas stash.

The Base for these Christmas Place Settings

All four of the settings in this post use the same basic pieces

  • The Florence dinner set from Casa Domani. I purchased mine at Spotlight a couple of years ago. At the time of writing this post, it happens to be on sale.
  • a white vintage dinner set
  • A natural linen look tablecloth from Kmart. It costs $12 and looks like real linen. Be warned, however, the tablecloth will shrink if you accidentally wash it in warm water!
  • A hessian table runner.
  • Gold cutlery set from Target.
  • White linen napkins, purchased from Kmart.

Christmas Place Setting 1: Snowflake

This Christmas place setting has a simple white snowflake decoration on the entree plate with two sprigs of spruce. The snowflake is a cute alternative to the traditional Christmas crackers that end up in the bin at the end of the day. Guests could take home their ornament to add to their own tree. It would make a sweet reminder of previous Christmas lunches. The party favour could be any special Christmas ornament that suits your theme.

Place Setting 2: Mini Wreath

This is my personal favourite! I made these mini wreaths using sprigs of rosemary from the garden. I tied them with jute twine at the top to form a bow. A brushed gold sleigh bell placed inside the wreath adds a touch of whimsy. Not to mention that Christmas bling we all love. The smell on the table, when guests handle the mini wreaths, is divine. Hang the wreaths to dry after Christmas lunch and they can be used when needed for cooking.

The cutlery in this place setting has been laid the traditional way. To add a rustic touch to this table I cut coasters from wattle wood. We had this on our property. Similar coasters are available on Esty if you don’t have access to resources to make your own.

Variation 3: Bells

The napkins and cutlery have been placed on top of the plates in this Christmas place setting. Fold the napkin into a simple pocket for a more formal look. Then sleighbells are the simple decoration on top. A bottlebrush tree stands on the coaster. All these elements make the table look festive but can be easily removed when it is time to eat. The dinner set is not matching in this setting either. I love mixing different settings together for a relaxed collected table.

Setting 4: All the elements!

This place setting is a variation on the others, using all the elements on the table. The entree plate has a napkin simply folded underneath. The sleighbells and bottlebrush trees form part of the centrepiece. All the dinner plates match.

I hope this inspires you to create a pretty place settings this year, using what you have around your home. If you do, I’d love to see them. Send me an email or tag me @our.vintage.farm on Instagram.
